Step 1: Build a Résumé That Gets Results

Your résumé should be a clear, confident expression of your value proposition—the unique blend of background, skills, character and education you bring to your next employer.

Create Your Résumé in 3 Easy Steps

In this step, you’ll learn how to choose the right résumé format, craft strong bullet points, and get expert feedback—so your résumé opens doors and moves your career forward. Building it early means you’ll always be ready: whether you pass a recruiter tabling in the Tanner Building, hear about a career fair the night before, or a friend-of-a-friend mentions an opportunity that closes soon.

  • Quinncia logo.

Quinncia is a new AI-powered tool launched by the Business Career Center. It helps you build your résumé and get instant feedback as you go. Visit the next page to find your major-specific login link and start using Quinncia.

  • Once you’ve built a draft in Quinncia, meet with a Career Director or a Student Career Coach for a quick review. They’ll help you polish phrasing, fix formatting, and tailor your résumé for specific jobs.

💡 Pro Tip: A second set of eyes can make all the difference—especially before career fairs or interviews.

  • Handshake Logo.

Handshake is BYU’s official job and internship platform for outside employers. You’ll use it to search for opportunities, upload your résumé, and connect with recruiters.

Having your résumé on Handshake means you can quickly apply for jobs and internships as soon as you find them—so you’re always ready when opportunities pop up.

    First time logging into Handshake?

    • Log in with your BYU Net ID and password.
    • Name your résumé file with your full name (like Emily_Chen_Resume.pdf).
    • Go to “My Profile” or “Documents,” and upload your résumé as a PDF.
    • Fill out your profile: Add your education, experience, and skills so employers can find you. A complete profile makes you stand out!

Faith in Action

Building a résumé isn’t just about listing skills—it’s about recognizing your individual worth and the gifts God has given you. Take a moment to prayerfully reflect on what makes you unique. As you do, remember what President Dieter F. Uchtdorf taught:

“God knows you. He loves you. He sees your potential. You are no ordinary being.”
(You Matter to Him, Oct. 2011)
